Dear Parents/Guardians of Alfred G. Waters Middle School Students,
Greetings from your school nurse! It is my goal to partner with you and the AGW staff to keep your student healthy and ready to learn. The 2010-2011 school year will have wellness information & activities that will be part of the school day and can also be shared at home. Listed below is general information regarding school health services.
Office hours are 7:15 am to 2:30 pm. Direct phone 449-3499, email, Loretta.Newsom@appo.k12.de.us, fax 378-5156, agwaters.org. My office is located next to the main office.
Students who are entering AGW as a first time student to a Delaware Public School must have a physical (within 2 years), up-to-date immunizations, and TB screening (within 12 months) documents by the time he/she starts school. This is a DE law; if noncompliant your child will be excluded from school.
All medication is kept in the nurse’s office. If you send any medication to school it must have the pharmacy label or the original container (for over- the- counter medication). This is a state law; therefore noncompliance will result in your child not receiving the medication at school. All students with asthma and/or allergies are recommended to have asthma (inhalers/nebulizers) and allergy (epi-pens) medications kept at school. Asthma, allergy, and seizure action plans are required and can be downloaded from agwaters.org.
The following health screenings will be administered to AGW students during the weeks of September 20 & 27. Orthopedic (Postural and Gait) also known as scoliosis screening will be administered to all AGW students. Vision & hearing screenings will be administered to all 7th graders. At any time throughout the school year if you want your child to be screened please contact me. If your child fails his/her vision, hearing, and/or orthopedic screening, I will send a letter home recommending an evaluation by a doctor. Students who start school later in the school year will be evaluated at a later date.
All students going home due to health issues must be sent home after an evaluation by the school nurse and discharged from the nurse’s office directly to their parent/guardian.
I use the agenda book to communicate with parents and teachers regarding student’s daily visits to the nurse’s office. Please review agenda books daily. It would be most helpful if you wrote in the agenda book if your child has been sick and medicated before school.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
