Video Game Collection The AGW library has started with a small collection of about 100 E or E+ rated games that have been extremely popular so far this year. We would like to also add T rated games, with parent permission. A form has been sent home and is also attached below for parents to sign and either allow or deny their student access to the T rated games. If anyone has gently used games you would like to donate to the library, we will gladly take them! In return you can get PBS tickets or a gift certificate to the book fair. Thank you! Ms. Payne and Patrick Reyes have a little fun together at the festival! Ms. Payne and her daughter, Ryleigh, wait in the rain to get Jeff Kinney to sign their books. Library HoursMonday-Friday 7:15 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Welcome to the AGW Library! As soon as you enter the AGW Library you will realize that this library is something special. From the comfy seating area for reading magazines and relaxing to the 16 flat screen computers and two 16 laptop carts, this library has it all. Our opening collection consisted of just over 5,500 items. In our first year, we added over 1,000 new items to the library and we continue to grow. I will be working very hard over the next few years to build a collection that meets the curricular needs of our students and staff. Reading for pleasure will also be addressed by creating a collection based on the interests of the students to include a wide range of topics and genres. It is a work in progress! I am really looking forward to a great year in middle school! Visit the library often :) Ms. Payne Mission StatementIn plain language, the AGW Library has three primary missions: - To teach students the benefit of research- with the Internet, there is so much information out there, students need to learn how to figure out what they need and how to evaluate resources and decide which are best. As the Library Media Specialist, it is my responsibility to collaborate with teachers to create authentic, standards-based learning experiences for students so they can practice research skills and learn to be information literate.
- To get students to read for fun- students need to learn that reading is not just a skill needed for school, but something that can be done for pleasure. There are all kinds of formats to chose from- magazines, on-line sites, graphic novels, etc. Students need to see reading as an option for fun, even though you can't plug in a book. Bored? Find what interests you and read about it! Pick up a book.
- To teach students how to use the library- free access to information is a great priviledge and students need to learn how to use on-line catalogs to look up materials, then be able to locate the materials on the shelf using the Dewey Decimal System. Knowing how to use a library is a priceless life skill that can benefit a person no matter where they live or how much money they have. It is equal opportunity access!
